DECK HOUSE
MODERN RETREAT
Designed as a tranquil, high-performance escape from city life, this all-electric lakeside home achieves elegance through simplicity and intention. Set on a wooded slope, it embraces lake views with expansive decking, cable railings, and a raised catwalk connecting the entry terrace to the main level. The exterior pairs pre-painted cement board siding with vertical planks of Shou Sugi Ban—Japanese burnt cedar—for a natural, enduring façade.
Inside, cedar ceilings and maple floors warm the open living spaces, anchored by a Nordic-style flat-panel kitchen and illuminated by an exposed ridge beam. A floating maple stair leads to a lower-level office with built-in bookcases, a concealed Murphy bed, and generous garden light. Both bathrooms feature radiant floors and curbless showers.
Sustainability drives every decision—solar power, geothermal systems, Tesla backup batteries, and a Span smart panel support off-grid performance. Every detail, from custom built-ins to discreet lighting, reflects the clients’ vision of a small-footprint, restorative weekend home seamlessly connected to its natural surroundings.
